Gulfport Patch has some ideas in order to enjoy a well-deserved weekend.

First Florida Frontiers Presents "Celebrating Florida"

Why go: First Florida Frontiers presents "Celebrating Florida," a series of programs to celebrate what it means to live in Florida. According to special projects chair, Elizabeth Neily, “There are so many people like me who moved here from somewhere else. We’d like to encourage people to learn how to appreciate the miracle of this place.” Tonight the presentation will be: "Living in Paradise: Foods and Medicinal Plants of the Tocobaga Indians."

Prices: $5 for members; $8 for non-members (first-time members attend free)

Exhibit: Chris Wilson's "Unexpected Road"

Where: Catherine Hickman Theater, 5501 27th Ave, S. Gulfport

When: Weekdays

Time: Open 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Why go: The Gulfport Arts Center presents photographer Chris Wilson's exhibit, "Unexpected Road," which remains in the gallery through July 29. The exhibit features a selection images taken from among roughly 10,000 during his decade in California.

Price: Free

Help Build Giant Gecko Dragon

Where: City of Imagination, 2725 54th St. S. Gulfport

When: Saturday, July 30

Time: 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Why go: Children of all ages are invited to build a giant gecko dragon out of paper mache. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring newspapers, sparkles, colorful fabrics, ribbons and pain supplies.

Price: Free

2011 Antiwarpt Music Festival

Where: State Theatre Concerts, 687 Central Ave, St. Petersburg

When: Saturday, July 30, 2011

Time: 2 p.m. - 2 a.m.

Why go: Brokenmold Entertainment and Daddy Kool Records present the 2011 Antiwarpt Music Festival, a concert event over eight stages featuring more than 60 local and regional bands. Performers include The London Souls, Infinite Groove Orchestra, Have Gun Will Travel, The Pright Light Social Hour, Nervous Turkey, and Thomas Wynn & the Believers.

Price: 12 to $15 in advance; $18 day of event

Saturday Salsa: Free Dancing at the Pier

Where: St. Petersburg Pier, 800 2nd Ave NE, St. Petersbug

When: Saturday, July 30, 2011

Time: 4:00 p.m. 

Why go: Come for a free "Intro to Salsa" group class from 4:30pm to 5pm, then enjoy the weather, the view, music, dancing, and socializing.
