The St. Petersburg Opera Presents "Die Fledermaus"

Why go: The St. Petersburg Opera presents "Die Fledermaus," an operetta full of secret identities, flirtations at a masked ball, elegant frivolities and confusions of all kinds. Johann Strauss, Jr. wrote the "intoxicating, exuberant score," which includes the "Fledermaus Waltz." Sung in English and German with English subtitles.

2011 Pit Bull Awareness Day

Where: SPCA Tampa Bay, 9099 130th Ave N, Largo, FL

When: Saturday, Oct. 1

Time: 11 a.m.

Why go: Tampa Bay Bullies and SPCA Tampa Bay team up for a fun celebration of pit bulls. See demonstrations of agility and weight-pulling. Participate in a 12:30pm pageant for best brindle, best red, best blue, best white, best tan/fawn, and best black, plus best owner-dog lookalike, waggiest tail, pudgiest pit and biggest head. Also enjoy food and vendors, free CGC testing and more.

Saturday Morning Market

Free Jazz Concert

Where: Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Dr. Largo, FL

When: Sunday, October 2

Time: 2 p.m.

Why go: Sonny LaRosa and America’s Youngest Jazz Band will perform music by Duke Ellington, Louie Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and other jazz kings on Sunday as part of the Pinellas Schools' 100th anniversary celebration.
