Why Go: Come volunteer and help your neighbors cleanup. Bring gloves, old clothes, close-toed shoes and preferably some extra trash bags.

Where: City of Imagination, 2726 54th St. S., Gulfport
Why Go: Learn how more about organic gardening, mulching essentials, growing compost and companion planting.
Price: $35 to $50 (sliding scale); $7 additional for local vegan lunch

Why Go: Compete or just taste the chili and salsa entries for the Third Annual Industrial Strength Chili Cookoff. There will be live entertainment. There will be a People's Choice Award for chili. Votes will be sold at $1 per vote.

Milonga La Playa: An Evening of Dinner Buffet and Dancing
When: Saturday, Sept. 10, 8 p.m. - 12 a.m.
Where: The Gulfport Casino Ballroom, 5500 Shore Blvd S, Gulfport, FL 33707
Why Go: Experience an evening of Argentine Tango - dinner, performance and social dancing at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom.

When: Sunday, Sept. 11, 9 a.m.
Where: 501 5th Ave NE, Saint Petersburg, FL 33701 (The Vinoy Hotel)
Why Go: 343 firefighters and 77 officers will gather outside the Vinoy in full uniform in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. They will represent the number lost in the World Trade Center attack and collapse, and “is intended to remind the world of the great sacrifices made by these men and women,” organizers say.
