After nearly two hours of discussion and debate about outsourcing the police dispatch center, the Gulfport City Council voted 3 to 2 to pass the operating budget for fiscal year 2012.

Vice Mayor David Hastings, Council member Barbara Banno and Council member Jennifer Salmon voted yes to the first reading.

Mayor Mike Yakes and Council member Sam Henderson voted no after proposing water and sewer increases that could have kept the city's police dispatch and parks department employees from being cut out of the city's budget.
