A special honor was bestowed upon sponsors Claudette and Ralph Martin. Two years ago, their son Joel died from a grand mal seizure. He was an avid baseball fan. In his honor, the Martins pay out of their own pocket to sponsor a team in the Gulfport Little League.
Teams and their players lined the infield as the ceremonies began. League officers then called individual teams to home plate where team members were given a medal or a trophy for playing in the league's baseball or softball teams.
