JROTC Tackles Fire Truck Pull For Good Cause

A pair of teams from Boca Ciega High School's JROTC program pulled a fire truck with proceeds benefiting the national blood marrow registry.

PINELLAS PARK- Maybe eight sets of hands makes pulling a fire truck across a Walgreens' parking lot a little easier? Thirteen eight-person teams, including two from the JROTC program at Boca Ciega High School, joined the pull Saturday. The task- grab the yellow, fire hose over the shoulder, keep the hose straight and move as fast as possible across the lot with a fire truck in tow! The event raised money for the national bone marrow registry.

The Be the Match Registry keeps track of potential donors. Every year, more than 10,000 patients in the U.S. are diagnosed with life-threatening diseases such as leukemia or lymphoma where a marrow or cord blood transplant from an unrelated donor may be the best or only hope of a cure. About 70 percent of patients in need of a transplant do not have a matching donor in their family.
