Pedestrian Injured in Gulfport Crash

A 55-year-old Gulfport man was walking on Gulfport Boulevard when he was hit by a car near 57th Street S.

A 55-year-old Gulfport resident was seriously hurt Wednesday night when he was struck by a car as he walked on Gulfport Bouelvard.

At 9:15 p.m., one block of the bouelvard was shut down, as first responders handled the accident scene.

Gulfport Police Sgt. Mike Vandenberg says the pedestrian, who has not been named by police, was walking in one of the westbound lanes of Gulfport Boulevard. He was struck by the car at about 7:35 p.m.

Gulfport Police Chief Robert Vincent says that a bottle of alcohol was recovered in the roard near the accident.

The man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Vincent says there was no crosswalk where the accident occurred. Investigators are unsure why the man was in the road. No charges have been filed in the accident.

Vandenberg and Officer Peter Horning were called out to investigate the crash.

The man has not been identified until his family can be contacted.
