Stetson’s law school hosts panel and film “Defending Gideon” on Feb. 11

Members of the public are invited to a panel discussion and
showing of the film, “Defending Gideon,” on Feb. 11 at Stetson
University College of Law’s Gulfport campus.

WHAT:
The Supreme Court in Gideon v. Wainwright ruled that states are required to provide counsel to defendants who cannot afford representation in criminal cases. Stetson Dean Emeritus and Professor of Law Bruce Jacob presented the historic case in 1963 before the high court.

WHO:
Jacob, Public Defender Bob Dillinger, Christopher Durocher of the Constitution Project, and Professor of Law Ellen Podgor will introduce the film, "Defending Gideon."

WHEN:
The program begins at 5 p.m. on Feb. 11.

WHERE: The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place in the Great Hall at Stetson University College of Law, 1401 61st St. S., Gulfport.
