16-Year-Old Arrested in the Shooting Death of St. Pete Police Officer David Crawford
16-year-old Nicholas Lemmon Lindsey of St. Petersburg was arrested for first degree murder Tuesday night.
ST. PETERSBURG -- Homicide detectives have arrested a 16-year-old for the .
At 6 p.m. Tuesday night Nicholas Lemmon Lindsey turned himself in to the St. Petersburg Police Department with his parents cooperation.
Police say the teeanger made an admission after two hours of questioning and changing his story about what happened Monday night.

"He will be charged tonight with first degree murder. He's gonna be paying for this for the rest of his life," St. Petersburg Police Chief Chuck Harmon said. "It's hard" because of the suspect's age. "It breaks my heart, we have a lot of good kids in our community ... you don't expect this."
Harmon said Lindsey "broke down" at some point during the admission stating that Lindsey cried and was "very remorseful in his actions".

Lindsey will be transported and booked into the Pinellas Juvenile Detention Center. Officials say he has prior arrests, mostly property crimes and "nothing violent", Harmon said.
Nicholas Lemmon Lindsey's birthday is Feb. 13, 1995, which means he turned 16 eight days before the shooting.
Officer David S. Crawford was shot Monday night while responding to a call about a suspicious person on the 700 block of 3rd Avenue South. He was pronounced dead at while police continued to look for the shooter.
