Theater Walk Back on Local Stage in Gulfport

For years, actors gathered in the streets of Gulfport, performed and interacted with audiences of up to 300 people. Now, local actors are moving indoors for their newest series of plays.

Director, producer, writer and actor Ciara Carinci has been a member of the Gulfport community for the past 16 years.

"I fell in love with the town," Carinci said.

And she's never hesitated to share her talent with Gulfport after moving to town. For those who remember, Carinci and a group of actors first began performing at the Gulfport Casino, about 10 years ago, then slowly they moved their shows into the streets. Performing "10-minute plays," Carinci says.

Carinci says their last show was about two years ago. It was outside the Beach Bazaar and lured an audience of about 300 people.

"We outgrew the streets," Carinci said.

Fellow actor Peter Suarez also performed in the "street theater" with Carinci and is working with her on this latest project.

Ciara Carinici and Peter Suarez are bringing their talent back in the forefront in a month-long series of shows at the Schork~Munsell Studios 2 in "Artists' Alley" on 29th Ave S.

"This is the first time that we'll have a permanent home," she said.

Joining the cast for this series of short plays are Wilson Loria, Kendall McGuire, Zack Myers and Rob McCabe.

The show is called "...on my mind" and will include a "fast paced" show of six short plays, directed by Carinci.

"We want to become the after dinner entertainment," Carinci said.

The hilarious and often poignant pieces explore the multifaceted nature of love. New love, old love, broken love, these little gems, two of which were written by prominent local playwrights, take the audience on a guided tour of matters of the heart led by a narcissistic sculpture.

Carinci says characters range from an Englishman to a mad man and to a nerdy psychic.

Shows are at 7pm & 9pm April 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21 at the Schork-Munsell Studios 2.

Tickets are $15. Visit us on Facebook/Three Muses & A Fool, or call (727) 656-8053 for more information and reservations.
