Tornado Watch in Effect in Gulfport

A tornado watch is in effect across Tampa Bay, including in Gulfport and throughout Pinellas County.

The watch will be overnight, until 7 a.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. The watch extends into Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota counties.

The watch was issued at 11:10 p.m. Saturday. Showers and thunderstorms also are in the forecast overnight.

According to TBO.com, the rare storm system for this time of year includes bands of rain and lightning strikes.

According to weather.com, the weather advisory includes a line of thunder storms moving east at 10 mph, with gusting winds. They extend from Brooksville to Redington Shores, 50 miles southwest of Bradenton Beach.
