Congratulations to the Gulfport Police Explorers Post 995!

Six members of the Gulfport Explorers Post 995 competed in the 2011 Florida Association of Police Explorers State Competition this past week and on Saturday June 25, their hard work and training paid off.

Explorers Captain Sam Smith says the team finished in 8th place out of 31 teams and the team earned third place trophies in two categories: Active Shooter and Search and Arrest. Smith writes on Gulfport Patch, "Overall we made a HUGE improvement since last year, and I am very proud of my team and how well they performed. Great job guys!"

The team competed in the week-long event last year but didn't place. They say they learned from that experience and came into this competition better prepared and driven to bring home a trophy.

Gulfport Police Det. Hanh Pham and School Resource Officer Steven Beltran advised the team during the competition.
