Today's riddle: When geese fly, one side is longer than the other. do you know why that is ? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Streetlife – 09-16-26 (islander.org) — Recent police reports show Holmes Beach officers responding to a stolen bike at Playa Encantada, a traffic stop involving open containers and marijuana on Gulf Drive, and the theft of two rented e-bikes. Nearby Bradenton Beach incidents included disorderly intoxication cases and a barrel fire, offering residents a snapshot of late-summer public safety issues around the Island.
2. Nesting notes: Disorientations continue (islander.org) — Sea turtle monitors report that about 35% of nests in Holmes Beach have experienced hatchling disorientations this season, with some young turtles found dead on nearby roads. Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch is working with beachfront properties, including in Holmes Beach, to improve lighting, while tracking thousands of hatchlings and even a marathon-tagged turtle sponsored by a local restaurant.
3. Holmes Beach reverend served at Ground Zero (amisun.com) — St. Bernard Catholic Church in Holmes Beach recently held a special 9/11 anniversary mass, where parishioners heard a deeply personal sermon from Rev. Gerard "Father G." Critch about his chaplain work at Ground Zero. Critch recalled ministering to firefighters, blessing remains, and later helping raise funds for children affected by the attacks, while also sharing how lingering health impacts still shape his life today.
4. Area Republicans rally for Democrat Kirschner against Trump-endorsed Gruters (thebradentontimes.com) — Holmes Beach residents may be interested to know Mayor Judy Titsworth joined other prominent Republicans in publicly backing Democrat Kelly Kirschner for the region's congressional seat. At a Bradenton riverfront event, local GOP figures criticized Trump-aligned politics and urged voters to prioritize character and moderation over party labels, signaling unusual cross-party dynamics ahead of November's District 16 election.
