Today's riddle: What do you get when you cross an angry cow with an angry sheep? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Ocean Reef Community Foundation (insidephilanthropy.com) — Nonprofits serving Homestead residents have a strong funding opportunity through the Ocean Reef Community Foundation's Community Grants and Impact Fund programs. The foundation prioritizes education, youth, health, family services, and community projects in Homestead and nearby areas, favoring local, project-based proposals that leverage matching funds and can show clear, long-term benefits for local families.
2. Invasive Asian swamp eels spread farther in South Florida (miramarflnews.com) — Asian swamp eels, an invasive predator threatening native fish and amphibians, have now been documented in canals around Homestead and the rest of Miami-Dade County. Scientists warn these mucus-covered eels could undermine Everglades restoration and urge residents to photograph and immediately report any suspicious eel-like fish they see in local canals, wetlands, or marshy areas using the IVEGOT1 hotline or app.
3. HTG to Proceed with Two-Phase Affordable Housing Project at 27501 and 27525 S. Dixie Highway, Homestead, Florida (floridayimby.com) — A large new affordable housing complex is planned for South Dixie Highway in Homestead, bringing 328 income-restricted apartments and nearly 11,500 square feet of commercial space. The Lakeview at Naranja project, backed by the Naranja Lakes CRA and Housing Trust Group, will replace a blighted retail center and include millions in infrastructure upgrades like better lakefront and pedestrian access.
4. Rehab Intern Michelle Luchau-Rebora Arrested For Allegedly Having Relations With Patient During Therapy Sessions (blacksportsonline.com) — An intern therapist who worked at New Hope CORPS in Homestead is accused of having an illegal sexual relationship with a patient under her care and has been arrested. She allegedly met the patient at the Homestead facility, was later fired, and turned herself in at the Homestead Police Department, where she now faces a felony sexual misconduct charge under Florida law.
5. No Fines, Just Five-Dollar Bills: NASCAR Turns Driver Swears Into a Fan Prize with the NASCAR Swear Jar (speedwaydigest.com) — NASCAR's new Swear Jar promotion will culminate at Homestead-Miami Speedway during the Cup Series Championship weekend, with one lucky fan winning a pot funded by drivers' on-air curses. Fans can listen to uncensored team radio, guess total swears and top curse words each race, and compete online for a chance to be the finalist who collects the growing cash prize in Homestead.
