1. 'It was my worst nightmare': Father speaks after son shot at Jacksonville high school football game (news4jax.com) — A Jacksonville father is speaking out after his 20-year-old son was shot during a high school football game Friday night at Lonnie C. Miller Sr. Regional Park in Northwest Jacksonville. Two people were wounded with non-life-threatening injuries, and community advocates are urging more investment and youth resources as JSO continues to search for suspects and asks residents to share tips.
2. CMG's Care-A-Thon for families fighting childhood cancer surpasses $300K (actionnewsjax.com) — More than $309,000 was raised this weekend in Jacksonville during Cox Media Group's annual Care-A-Thon to support local families battling childhood cancer. Volunteers staffed phones at the Southside studios, and every dollar will stay in Jacksonville to help with everyday expenses like gas for treatment trips, easing some of the financial strain on affected families.
3. Florida shoppers could pay 52% more for groceries depending on store (miramarflnews.com) — Jacksonville shoppers are highlighted in a new analysis showing Florida grocery bills can jump more than 50% depending on which supermarket you choose. With Whole Foods' new Riverside store among the priciest options and Aldi ranked cheapest statewide, the report urges Floridians to rethink where they shop to stretch tight food budgets.
4. JSO nets 5 pounds of weed, 2 firearms, and 1 man - who was charged with selling drugs (actionnewsjax.com) — Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says a recent investigation led to the arrest of a 19-year-old and the seizure of more than five pounds of marijuana, two firearms, and other drugs and cash. Detectives monitored suspected marijuana sales since June, then conducted a traffic stop and home search that uncovered weapons, mushrooms, and a money counter, highlighting ongoing local drug enforcement efforts.
