VyStar announces $5 million donation for UF graduate campus in LaVilla (jaxdailyrecord.com) — VyStar Credit Union is putting $5 million toward the University of Florida's new graduate campus in Downtown Jacksonville, adding to more than $300 million already committed by state, city and private sources. Classes are beginning this fall in the converted Interline Brands building on West Bay Street, with more construction planned nearby. The project, backed by $105 million in Duval County funds, is expected to boost local talent, innovation and jobs.
   

2. Shooting near Jacksonville high school football game raises questions about safety at sporting events (news4jax.com) — A shooting near a high school football game at Lonnie C. Miller Park on Jacksonville's Northside left two young adults injured and has led one participating school to cancel its entire football season. Police say the gunfire stemmed from an ongoing dispute between two groups, and community members are now calling for stronger security and accountability at local sporting events.
   

3. Jacksonville man facing new charges in shooting that killed 4-year-old daughter, wounded 2-year-old daughter & mom (news4jax.com) — A Jacksonville man already charged in a Northside triple shooting that killed his 4-year-old daughter and wounded her mother and younger sister is now facing additional aggravated child abuse charges. He remains jailed without bond ahead of a pretrial hearing Tuesday, while police and advocates highlight available domestic violence support resources for Jacksonville families.
   

4. Jacksonville animal shelter asks for fosters, adopters as it cares for 400+ dogs with more on the way (firstcoastnews.com) — Jacksonville's Animal Care and Protective Services is overflowing with more than 400 dogs in just 264 kennels and is urgently asking locals to foster or adopt, with fees currently waived. Residents can visit the Forest Street shelter between noon and 7 p.m. to meet dogs and even take one home the same day. City data shows adoptions and save rates are up, but more animals are arriving every day.
   

5. UNF hosts free public viewing of near-total lunar eclipse Thursday (actionnewsjax.com) — A free public lunar eclipse viewing is happening this Thursday night at the UNF Arena parking garage in Jacksonville, with telescopes set up from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. The event is part of UNF's monthly Astronomy Nights series and is open to anyone curious about watching the moon turn red. It's a rare, no-cost science experience right in your backyard.
