1. University of Florida opens LaVilla campus focused on AI, cybersecurity and health sciences (news4jax.com) ā Downtown Jacksonville now hosts a new University of Florida graduate campus at 801 West Bay Street, offering AI-, cybersecurity- and data-focused degrees tailored to modern careers. UF Jacksonville leaders say the site is designed to plug graduates directly into local employers and research, with a second building already planned as the campus grows into a larger innovation and workforce hub for the city.

UF celebrates opening of Jacksonville graduate campus (jaxdailyrecord.com) ā A new University of Florida graduate campus has officially opened in LaVilla, with classes already underway and 158 students enrolled in Jacksonville-focused programs like AI, cybersecurity, law and business. City leaders have committed major funding and land, and a second, much larger instructional building heads to the Downtown Development Review Board on Sept. 10, signaling long-term growth, jobs and redevelopment for downtown Jacksonville.

3. Sticker shock at the pump: Duval County gas prices soar 21 cents overnight (actionnewsjax.com) ā Gas prices in Jacksonville have jumped sharply, with Duval County's average now around $4.09 per gallon and some Beach Boulevard stations already at $4.19. Local drivers are feeling the squeeze, and AAA says global conflict and volatile fuel markets are to blame, while offering timing and driving tips to help residents save a bit at the pump.

Scammer targets Jacksonville Fair vendors ahead of 2026 event (news4jax.com) ā Jacksonville Fair organizers are warning local food vendors about a scammer posing as a fair employee using a fake Gmail address to request payments and information. Vendors are urged to ignore messages from the fraudulent account and only trust communications from official jacksonvillefair.com or jaxfair.com emails as excitement builds for the November 5ā15, 2026 fair at its new Westside venue.

5. Dark Divine Announce Headlining Tour With Fire From The Gods (themosh.net) ā Metal band Dark Divine will kick off their October headlining tour in Jacksonville on 10/12 with a show at Jack Rabbits, joined by Fire From The Gods and OUTLIER. Fans here can expect longer sets and some songs performed live for the first time as the tour launches before moving on to Texas and the Midwest.
