These relaxed walks offer a chance to ask health questions, boost fitness, and potentially lower dementia risk, with sessions held on the last Saturday and second Sunday of each month.

2. UNF trustees select Michael P. Shannon as next university president (news4jax.com) ā€” University of North Florida trustees in Jacksonville have chosen Dr. Michael P. Shannon as the next president, pending confirmation by the state Board of Governors. 3. Man killed in shooting at Clanzel T. Brown Park; suspect in custody (firstcoastnews.com) ā€” A man was fatally shot Wednesday evening at Clanzel T. Brown Park on Moncrief Road in Jacksonville, and police say a suspect is already in custody. Investigators report the shooting followed an argument during a basketball game, and they're asking anyone with information to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers. The park was also the site of another shooting less than two months ago.

City leader explains why pothole repairs could take time after neighbors use one as a tree planter (firstcoastnews.com) ā€” A giant road hole at Hamilton and Polaris streets in Jacksonville's Murray Hill neighborhood has grown so large a neighbor planted a banana tree in it, but city leaders say repairs may still be far off. Councilmember Jimmy Peluso calls it a sinkhole and cites a huge project backlog and funding gap, leaving residents worried about daily safety as drivers swerve around it.

Lifeguard Training in Jacksonville, FL (redcross.org) ā€” If you've ever thought about lifeguarding in Jacksonville, American Red Cross courses offered locally can get you certified for jobs around area pools and aquatic centers. Classes may be held in Jacksonville or nearby communities, with in-person and blended options that take about 27 hours and lead to a two-year lifeguarding and CPR/AED certification.
