1. Jacksonville's e-bike crackdown: Speed limit, stiffer standards (jaxtoday.org) — Jacksonville residents who ride e-bikes will soon face a new 15 mph speed limit on sidewalks and stricter rules meant to protect pedestrians across Duval County. The City Council unanimously approved regulations requiring audible signals when passing, yielding to walkers, and banning reckless maneuvers. City officials are planning new signage and funding to enforce the changes once the mayor signs the ordinance.
2. Culver's Eyed for New Jacksonville Location Near I-95 (whatnow.com) — A new Culver's is being explored for 5110 University Blvd. W., between I-95 and Philips Highway, potentially adding another convenient option for Jacksonville residents near the Bowden area. The project is still in the utility-review and approval stages, with no franchisee named yet, but it would expand the chain's growing Northeast Florida footprint if it moves forward.
3. River City Science Academy approved to open a seventh charter school at FSCJ's Beach Blvd. campus (actionnewsjax.com) — River City Science Academy is moving ahead with a new standalone high school at FSCJ's South Campus on Beach Boulevard in Jacksonville, expanding options for local families by the 2027–28 school year. The charter network, already serving more than 5,000 students at multiple Jacksonville campuses, plans early college, AP, STEM, and career pathways. Virtual information sessions for interested eighth-graders and families are coming in October.
4. Jacksonville Sheriff's Office to open new Public Services Building near new headquarters in Brooklyn (actionnewsjax.com) — Jacksonville residents will soon handle many Sheriff's Office services at a new Public Services Building opening Monday at 450 Magnolia Street near the Brooklyn headquarters. You'll be able to get fingerprints, public records, work permits, and recruitment help there on weekdays, with free parking and continued access to the 24/7 prescription drug drop box at headquarters.
5. Parent questions early bus arrivals at Mandarin High School (news4jax.com) — Parents at Mandarin High School in Jacksonville are raising concerns after a magnet bus suddenly began arriving about 20 minutes earlier, dropping students off before staff are available to supervise them. One father says communication from Duval County Public Schools has been confusing, and students have been left unsupervised outside locked gates. The district acknowledges operational and communication errors and says it is working directly with affected families.
