1 Killed, 2 Seriously Injured In Crash On I-4 In Polk County

POLK COUNTY, FL – One person is dead and two others sustained serious injuries following an accident Wednesday, Aug. 29 on Interstate 4 in Polk County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Danny Ray O’Connell, 63, of Ocala was driving his 2008 Dodge Charger west on Interstate 4 near County Road 557 around 11:30 a.m. For unknown reasons, the car left the road, traveled up the embankment at the entrance ramp to CR 557, collided with the overpass and came to rest on the grass shoulder.

A female passenger was killed. Her name is not being released until her next of kin has been notified.

O’Connell and a second passenger, Daniel Carfucci, 67, of Holly Hill were taken to Lakeland Regional Hospital with serious injuries.
