2 Brothers And A Woman Accused In Triple Homicide: Police

Police said the three individuals went to McDonald's after the killings and ordered 10 cheeseburgers.

FROSTPROOF, FL — Two brothers and a girlfriend of one of the brothers were arrested in connection with the triple homicide that happened in the Frostproof area on July 17, a Polk County Sheriff's Office news release said.

The victims Damion Tillman, 23, Keven Springfield, 30, and Brandon Rollins, 27 were at the Lake Streety area where they planned to go fishing on the night of their deaths, said police.

Tony "TJ" Wiggins, 26, William "Robert" Wiggins, 21, and Mary Whittemore, 27, were charged in connection with the deaths that took place at the Lake Streety location in Frostproof.

Authorities said during a search of the crime scene, detectives found a Dollar General bag and a receipt dated the night of the murders. Police obtained surveillance video from Dollar General that showed one of the victims — Tillman — making a purchase. (The video provided by the Polk County Sheriff's Office is at the bottom of this article.)

Detectives spoke with the clerk, who knew the 23-year-old as a frequent customer. The clerk told officials that Tillman had said he was going fishing. The clerk also saw the suspects in the store at the same time, and they are also seen in the video.

The clerk told investigators that Tillman said he was going fishing, and that Springfield would be with him, as the clerk listened to all of them talk to each other about the fishing plans.

Authorities also received tips that one of the suspects might be 26-year-old TJ Wiggins. Police said TJ Wiggins was seen in the video at Dollar General.

On July 20, detectives served a search warrant at a parcel of land on Sarver Avenue near Sandollar Street in Lake Wales, where a travel trailer was parked. Tony Wiggins and Whittemore live in the trailer. Tony Wiggins' brother, "Robert" Wiggins, lives in a nearby trailer on the same plot.

Detectives found two SKS rifles, two Mossberg shotguns and ammunition for both guns in a gun safe that belongs to TJ Wiggins.

Investigators also found the shell casings found at the location of the triple homicide. The ammunition was sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement lab for testing, and the test results came back positive - the ammunition found in the trailer is the same ammunition fired from the gun that night, a Smith & Wesson handgun.

Detectives learned that Whittemore purchased the ammunition for TJ Wiggins in Lake Wales on July 9. They are seen in video surveillance purchasing it at a store, and detectives got the receipt for the purchase. After detectives interviewed all three, they said their stories were inconsistent.

Whittemore admitted to purchasing the ammunition, and to being with the brothers on the night of the murder. She did not make any additional statements, said police.

Officials said the Wiggins brothers' statements were inconsistent during their interviews.

Robert Wiggins was interviewed a second time and that is when he told police he saw Tillman in the Dollar General store on Friday evening while he stood in line behind Tillman with his brother, TJ Wiggins.

Robert Wiggins told authorities that when they left the store, his brother told him to turn onto a particular road, instead of going home. Two trucks, occupied by the three victims, passed Robert Wiggins on that road, and police said TJ Wiggins told Robert Wiggins to make a U-turn and follow the trucks.

Robert Wiggins followed the trucks to Lake Streety Road in Frostproof. Authorities said Robert Wiggins stayed in the truck with Whittemore, and TJ Wiggins got out and confronted Keven Springfield with punches, yelled at him with accusations that Keven stole his truck.

Brandon Rollins and Damion Tillman got out of their truck, and TJ Wiggins continued to scream at all of them. Robert Wiggins told detectives he watched as his brother shot all three victims. TJ Wiggins then asked Robert Wiggins to help him put Damion into the back of one of the trucks.

Police said after the brutal killings, the three suspects drove to McDonald's, where they ordered 10 double cheeseburgers and two McChicken sandwiches. They went home to eat.

TJ Wiggins is a convicted felon, so he was placed under arrest for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. Due to the fact that he committed crimes while out on bond, he violated his pretrial release conditions, and a Parker vs. State hold was applied, which means he is not allowed to bond out on the new charges.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said "TJ" Wiggins has been charged with:

  • First-degree murder
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Possession of ammunition by a convicted felon

"Robert" Wiggins has been charged with:

  • Tampering with evidence
  • Accessory after the fact of capital felony

Whittemore has been charged with:

  • Accessory after the fact of capital felony

All three will have their first appearance hearings at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2020.
