2 Men Accused Of Shooting Man At Motel Turn Themselves In: Police

A Haines City man died after he was shot during a drug transaction with two men in a motel parking lot in Davenport.

BARTOW, FL — Two men accused by police of murdering 22-year-old Deonta Bugg of Haines City in a motel parking lot on July 15 turned themselves into authorities, a police news release said.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said the two men — Sedrick Myers, 20, and Cory Bowland Jr., 18 — went to the PSCO Central County Jail in Bartow on Monday and surrendered to police.

On July 15, officers arrived to the Days Inn motel on U.S. Highway 27 in Davenport after they were notified about shots that were fired in the area, and saw Bugg on the ground with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

Detectives said the victim rented a room at the motel for selling drugs from, and on the day of his death, he had a drug exchange meeting scheduled via Snapchat with Myers and Bowland outside the motel.

A witness in the motel room said the victim told him that he had a bad feeling he was going to be robbed during the transaction. The witness saw Bugg talking to two people inside a white Chevrolet Silverado truck, and saw one of the men shoot Bugg, police said. The truck left the location, and officers were able to find the owner of the truck who said they allowed Bowland to borrow the truck that day.
