60-Foot-Deep Sinkhole Opens Outside Polk County Home

A sinkhole outside a home in Polk County is being monitored by the fire and rescue department.

POLK COUNTY, FL — A sinkhole estimated to be 60 feet deep opened outside a home in Polk County, the county's fire and rescue department said Saturday.

The sinkhole is located on Royal Crest Drive in Highland City. Polk County Fire Rescue estimated it was 15 feet wide as of Saturday morning. Officials did not believe the sinkhole is a threat to the nearby roadway.

Officials continue to monitor the sinkhole.
