The Pasco County Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit says a man on a scooter was killed when he drove into traffic.

LAKELAND, FL -- A 69-year-old man on a three-wheeled mobility scooter was killed while trying to cross U.S. 98 North in Lakeland.
According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Willard Miller of Snowy Plover Drive in Lakeland was operating his orange three-wheeled mobility scooter along the median break of U.S. 98 North near the intersection with Thomas Road around 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 6 when, according to witnesses and evidence, he suddenly proceeded east across U.S. 98 toward Thomas Road.
At least two vehicles on U.S. 98 had to take evasive actions to avoid striking him, but the third vehicle, a silver Toyota Cruiser driven by 53-year-old James McNamara of 11th Street in Zephyrhills, was unable to avoid striking him. McNamara immediately stopped to render aid, along with other motorists, but Willard was declared dead at the scene.
