Emu Takes A Stroll On FL Highway, Prompting An Unusual Rescue

POLK COUNTY, FL — Florida troopers handled a decidedly unusual traffic hazard Saturday morning after an emu wandered onto Polk Parkway.

Troopers were called around 8:30 a.m. after the large, flightless Australian bird was spotted walking along State Road 570 near mile marker 16, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers managed to corral the emu into the back of a Road Ranger, where it remained until its owners arrived to retrieve it.

No injuries were reported.

And in a nod to Liberty Mutual's emu-centric advertising campaign, FHP added that "no insurance policies were sold by LiMu."
