Better Together is breaking down employment barriers by hosting a series of background-friendly job fairs across the country as part of its Nationwide Days of Second Chances. In Lakeland, a job fair will be held Thursday, April 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church Lakeland, located at 72 Lake Morton Drive.&nbsp; 
To support job seekers who are faced with challenges to re-entering the workforce, Better Together’s Days of Second Chances brings churches, volunteers, businesses and nonprofits together to host a coordinated job fair that features background-friendly employers and provides resources including free one-on-one job coaching sessions to review resumes and interviewing skills, clothing and haircuts. Child care is also available for job seekers with children.

April is&nbsp;'CHILD GUN SAFETY EDUCATION MONTH' To date, In-Gauge of Polk County, Winter Haven, Florida has received 10 Polk County municipal proclamations, joined by the Highlands County Board of County Commissioners, declaring April as 'CHILD GUN SAFETY EDUCATION MONTH'. The mission of the campaign is to prevent unintentional (accidental) child gun related injury and death. It has been recognized that there are an estimated&nbsp;500 million&nbsp;firearms in the hands of the U.S. civilian population and as per the Center for Disease Control, unintentional firearm related injuries and death among children is a "public health crisis".&nbsp; It has further been recognized that children between 11-15 years of age account for two-thirds of the incidents, with those incidents occurring at home or in a residence, while playing with or showing a firearm to another child. In the first 5 months of 2025, Polk County, Florida experienced 3 preventable, child related gun fatalities.&nbsp; Those incidents prompted In-Gauge of Polk County, a non-profit organization, in Winter Haven, Florida to initiate its 'CHILD GUN SAFETY EDUCATION' campaign. Sheryl’s BreastFest – 11th Annual Music Festival and Cancer Benefit

Zion Hill Primitive Baptist Church

Better Together, a nonprofit on a mission to build strong families and communities, is partnering with Zion Hill Primitive Baptist Church to host a community job fair on Tuesday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 
Registration is now open for job seekers and employers to participate in the May event. With a spirit of hope and celebration, the church-based job fairs empower job seekers by connecting them with local employers who are ready to hire, while offering supportive services that foster meaningful connections and increase opportunities for lasting employment. Free one-on-one job coaching sessions are available to participants to review resumes, and additional services will be available onsite. 
The May 12 job fair will take place at Zion Hill Primitive Baptist Church, located at 1348 N. Sidney Ave. in Lakeland.
