POLK COUNTY — The Florida Highway Patrol says the man who died in a fiery car crash on Wednesday along Interstate 4 in Polk County was 46-years-old and lived in New Port Richey.

Due to Marsy's Law, the Florida Highway Patrol will not release the name of the victim.

A man lost his life on Wednesday afternoon after his car crashed into a tree on Interstate 4 in Polk County, a Florida Highway Patrol news release said.

When the driver approached milepost 28 investigators say he lost control of his car.

The car went across all westbound lanes of I-4 and collided with a tree, investigators said.

Deputies say the collision caused the car to catch fire, and the driver died at the scene of the crash.
