Commercial Vehicle Hits And Kills Victim In Fort Meade: Police
The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating the identity of a suspect and victim after the suspect left the scene of a crash.
FORT MEADE, FL — An unidentified 60-year-old man died when a vehicle hit him and left the scene early Saturday morning in the Fort Meade area, a police news release said.
Detectives say based on evidence from the scene that the suspect's vehicle is possibly a commercial vehicle.
The victim was a Hispanic man in dark clothing who police say either walked or stood in the outside right lane of Highway U.S. 17 southbound near the intersection of Hammock Lake Drive when the car hit him at around 3:54 a.m.

The identity of the victim is unknown, authorities said.
