Dogs Killed, 1 Hospitalized After Lakeland Fire
The commercial structure was possibly used as an apartment, officials said. (Breaking)
LAKELAND, Fl – Polk County Fire Rescue today responded to a fire at 455 Commerce Drive in Lakeland that sent one individual to the hospital and possibly killed four dogs, according to Polk County officials.
The structure fire, reported at roughly 2:10 p.m., was at a commercial property that appeared to be an office used as an apartment, the department said.
When firefighters arrived, smoke was showing and there was a "working fire" inside the structure, but the blaze was under control by 3 p.m., Polk County officials said.

An adult female was transported to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center for evaluation, and firefighters also recovered the remains of four dogs from the structure, officials said.
The state’s Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations was called to investigate the cause of the fire.
