Family Of Florida Woman Killed In Fiery McLaren Crash Seek Aid To Bring Daughter Home

IRVINE, CA — The family of a 22-year-old woman killed in a violent crash in Irvine, California on Sunday sought the public's help this week in bringing her remains back home to Florida.

Alexis "Lexi" Kramer, 22, was the passenger in a speeding McLaren crash that also killed the driver, identified as South OC Cars and Coffee co-founder James Wehr, 27, over the weekend.

Kaitlin, Kramer's sister, started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for funeral expenses and the cost of having to move the young woman's remains.

According to family members, Alexis Kramer lived in Lakeland, Florida.

"Because of where it took place my family now has to make arrangements to get her back to our home in Florida," Kaitlin Gracie Kramer wrote. "I would like to host a celebration of life to honor my sister and give a space for all her family, friends and members of our community to come out and share in our love for Lexi."

Investigators with the Irvine Police Department officially identified the pair on Thursday.

According to major accident investigators, police "have clear evidence that shows Wehr was in the driver's seat of the McLaren and Kramer was in the passenger seat at the time of the collision," the Irvine Police Department said in a statement. "Investigators will examine all possible contributing factors to the collision, including roadway and vehicle conditions, the vehicle's speed, and any factors that may have affected Wehr's operation of the McLaren."

According to police, the car was traveling north on Culver Drive near Deerfield Avenue at a high rate of speed when it hit a tree around 12:20 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 13.

As of Thursday, police had not estimated how fast the car was going when it careened out of control, hit a tree, split and burst into flames.

According to the New York Post, Kramer had flown out from her Florida home on Friday to meet Wehr, whom she had been exchanging messages with on social media.

According to The Post, the duo spent the weekend together after meeting on Instagram a month earlier.

"He talked to her every day all the time and finally got her to fly out to California to come see him," a family member told The New York Post. "She loved the car community, so it's such a tragedy that that's what ended her."

It was not immediately clear who was behind the wheel of the McLaren when it crashed.

Community members grieved the loss of Wehr, who made waves in the Orange County community by co-founding South OC Cars and Coffee — an event billed as "the world's largest weekly car show."

"South OC Cars and Coffee family. Unfortunately, we have some really heavy news to share with you all. This morning, just after midnight, we lost our darling son and brother James, in a motor accident," the car club wrote on Instagram. "We respectfully ask for privacy as a family, as we process this profound loss."

Wehr's wife, Emma Wehr, took to Instagram to issue an emotional tribute to her late husband.

"I never thought the day would come that I'd have to say such a final goodbye," she wrote on Instagram. "Getting the opportunity to love you will always be the greatest blessing in my life."
