Haines City Man Accused Of Kidnapping, Raping 16-Year-Old

The accused allegedly held a knife to the teen's throat, attached a dog leash to her neck and put her in his truck.

DAVENPORT, FL--A Haines City man accused of attaching a dog leash to the neck of a 16-year-old girl and raping her is in custody.

Polk County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Travis Burton, 30, Saturday after he fled from deputies.

According to a media release, Burton encountered the teenager at an unoccupied home in Davenport where he punched her several times in the face before tying her up with rope and tape, cutting off her underwear and then sexually assaulting her.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Burton then held a knife to her throat, attached a dog leash to her neck and put her in his truck. He drove her to a nearby orange grove where his truck became stuck in the mud. There, he sexually assaulted her again.

When Polk County deputies arrived on the scene, Burton tried to flee on foot but was apprehended by deputies.

Burton told deputies that he met the teen on the Internet and agreed to pay her $300 for sex. However, when the teen arrived, they had a disagreement over the money.

Burton was charged with sexual battery, kidnapping, burglary, aggravated child abuse and soliciting prostitution.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd is expected to issue more details Tuesday afternoon.
