Lakeland High Student Arrested For Threatening To Kill Classmates

LAKELAND, FL – An 18-year-old Lakeland High School student has been arrested for threatening to kill several students after they bullied him.

Lakeland Police have charged Jared Timothy Gleydura with a second-degree felony for recording a threat on a cell phone video and posting it on the social media site, Snapchat.

The school resource officers at both Lakeland and George Jenkins high schools received tips Thursday, March 15, that Gleydura had posted a video on Snapchat threatening to kill several students.

The school resource officer at Lakeland High located Gleydura at the school and brought him to the office where Gleydura offered his cell phone so officers could see the video he posted on Snapchat.

The version he showed officers, however, had been edited and did not contain any threats.

The officers obtained a copy of the complete video in which Gleydura speaks directly into his cell phone camera about fellow students picking on him and calling him a faggot. He goes on to say, "I want to kill them. I'm going to kill them. I'm going to commit manslaughter on Tuesday."

Police say Gleydura was cooperative during the interview and carried no weapons. Detectives also searched his home and found no weapons.

Gleydura told police he recorded the video because he was upset about being called names. He repeated that he never intended to hurt anyone.

Police determined, however, that Gleydura’s social media post met the criteria for state statutes that say any person who makes, posts or transmits a threat to commit a mass shooting or act of terrorism through writings or other records, including electronic recordings, has committed a second-degree felony.
