Lakeland Police Arrest 2 Men For Making, Exploding Homemade Bomb
The arrests stem from Nov. 28 when the two men reportedly made what's known as "The Works" bombs.
LAKELAND, FL – Two 20-year-old men have been charged with making a bomb and setting it off.
Lakeland Police have charged Michael Robert Stein with 3 felony counts of making a destructive device. Brian Edward Wilson has been charged with one felony count of making a destructive device.
The arrests stem from Nov. 28 when the two men reportedly made what’s known as “The Works” bombs. The bomb is a mixture of a chemical and aluminum foil in a plastic bottle. The chemical and aluminum react, causing the gas to expand and the bottle to explode.

Lakeland Police say the accused men placed two of the bombs in the parking lot of Common Ground Park at 1000 E. Edgewood Drive around 9 p.m. but they did not explode.
The two men then reportedly made a third bomb and successfully set it off in between a pathway and a pond off Lake Hollingsworth and Hollingsworth Oak drives around 10 p.m.

Stein admitted to coming up with the idea and placing the bombs but said he never intended to harm anyone. He was simply showing his friends how it could be done.
Making and discharging a destructive device is a third-degree felony.
