Man Arrested After Shooting Into Auburndale Family's SUV

A Slidell, Louisiana has been charged with attempted murder after reportedly shooting into an SUV carrying an Auburndale family.

AUBURNDALE, FL -- A Slidell, Louisiana has been charged with attempted murder after reportedly shooting into an SUV carrying an Auburndale family.

Aaron Chad Delaune, 25, was arrested on four counts of attempted felony murder and one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle.

On Saturday, Sept. 1 at 1:20 p.m., parents and their two 9-year-old children were driving down U.S. 92 near Havendale Boulevard when the SUV attempted a to merge into an outside lane to make a right turn but was unable to move over due to traffic from a group of motorcycles.

Delaune, who was in a Dodge Charger traveling with motorcyclists, responded to the SUV's attempt to merge by firing two bullets into the rear lift gate of the SUV. The bullets traveled through the passenger section but missed the passengers.

A witness followed Delaune's car down U.S. 92 and took down the license plate as well as a description of the gun used. Polk County Sheriff's detectives located the car near U.S. 92 and Fish Hatchery Road and took Delaune into custody near Combee Road in Lakeland.

During a search of the car, detectives found a .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol, a shotgun, ammunition and a spent shell casing.
