Math Teacher Charged For Inappropriate Relationship With Student: Cops

HAINES CITY, FL — A Polk County math teacher was arrested and charged this week after authorities said he had an inappropriate relationship with a female student.
Kevin Rodriquez-Febus, 23, was charged with offenses against students by authority figures, a second-degree felony, according to the Haines City Police Department. Febus, who worked as a math teacher at Haines City High School, was arrested Tuesday, police said.
According to authorities, police learned about the relationship between Febus and the student after a tipster came forward. After the witness provided information to authorities, police interviewed the victim, who said she and Febus had been dating since early 2023.

Police said the victim told investigators that Febus approached her on an online messaging app. According to authorities, Febus and the victim met at various locations throughout the state to go on dates.
After interviewing the victim, detectives met with Febus, who told detectives he was in love with the victim and wanted a relationship with her. He also told detectives he was her boyfriend, and the victim was his girlfriend, according to police.

During the interview, police said Febus admitted to several acts of inappropriate behavior with the victim.
Polk County School Board Superintendent Fred Heid said officials are moving to terminate Febus' employment with the district.
“We trust (teachers and school employees) with our children, and anyone who takes advantage of such positions of authority has no place within our schools," Heid said.
