Motorcyclist Dies After Collision With SUV: Police

The Lakeland police closed South Florida Avenue for three hours Thursday night following the accident.

LAKELAND, FL — A Lakeland man died Thursday night after his motorcycle struck an SUV making a left turn on South Florida Avenue, according to the Lakeland police.

The police and fire and rescue personnel from Lakeland and Polk County responded to the scene, applied lifesaving measures and transported the motorcyclist, Kyle Bradley Conord Roberts, 31, to the Lakeland Regional Health Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said in a statement.

South Florida Avenue (State Road 37) was closed for three hours on Thursday night as police investigated the accident, and no charges had been filed as of Friday morning.

The collision occurred at about 9:05 p.m. Friday, the police said. At the time, Roberts was riding his black Suzuki motorcycle north in the outside lane of South Florida Avenue.

He "was reported to have accelerated to a high rate of speed to the point the front wheel came off the ground," the police said.

At the same time, Sarah M. Parades, 30, was driving south on South Florida Avenue in a silver Chevrolet Traverse SUV and entered the continuous left turn lane, the police said. She then made a left turn into the parking lot of Dunkin' Donuts at 3110 South Florida Ave.

As the SUV was turning, the motorcycle hit the passenger side. Roberts "was separated from the motorcycle and came to final rest in the roadway," the police said.
