Noor Salman, Widow of Orlando Gunman Omar Mateen, Charged in Connection to Pulse Massacre

Noor Salman was arrested in the San Francisco bay area on Monday.

Noor Salman, the widow of Orlando gunman Omar Mateen, has been charged with knowingly aiding and abetting the gunman who killed 49 people at a gay nightclub in June, according to a two-count indictment unsealed Tuesday by the U.S. Attorney's office for the middle district of Florida.

The indictment states that Salman did knowingly aid and abet Mateen's attempted provision and provision of "material support and resources," including personnel and resources, to ISIS between April and June of 2016. According to the indictment, Salman also knowingly engaged in misleading conduct towards law enforcement "on or about June 12" with the intention to "hinder, delay and prevent communication" to federal law enforcement agencies information relating to the attack at Pulse night club.

Salman was arrested by the FBI at her home in the San Francisco bay area on Monday.

After the arrest Monday, Salman's attorney, Linda Moreno, said Salman "had no foreknowledge nor could she predict what Omar Mateen intended to do that tragic night," according to an Associated Press report.

Orlando police chief John Mina issued a statement Monday on Salman's arrest.

"I am glad to see that Omar Mateen's wife has been charged with aiding her husband in the commission of the brutal attack on the Pulse nightclub," Mina said. "Federal authorities have been working tirelessly on this case for more than seven months, and we are grateful that they have seen to it that some measure of justice will be served in this act of terror that has affected our community so deeply."

At a court appearance Tuesday, a federal prosecutor said Salman knew of the attack before it was going to happen, the Los Angeles Times reported. Her arraignment was delayed another day.
