LAKELAND, FL —The Polk County Sheriff's Office arrested a Socrum Loop Elementary teacher on driving under the influence charges around 1:25 a.m. on May 8, according to a Polk County Sheriff's Office news release. An officer pulled 40-year-old Robin Eileen Ramos over at the intersection of Kathleen Road and Central Avenue NW after noticing her swerving in and out of a northbound lane on Kathleen.

She told deputies that she had not had any alcohol, but that she had taken a Xanax before driving. The deputies asked her if her prescription for Xanax included the warning that she should not operate heavy machinery after taking it, and she said she did not know but should "probably look into that," according to police.

As deputies conducted the DUI investigation, they said they noticed she stumbled as she walked and was swaying and unsteady while standing still. Her eyes were bloodshot. She failed to touch the tip of her nose six times during a field sobriety test.

After Ramos was arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail, she willingly submitted a breath test. The test did not show the presence of alcohol. She refused to submit a urine sample to detect the presence of any chemicals or controlled substances, police said.

Deputies said that upon her arrest she told them that she is a teacher at Kathleen Elementary School. She later told detention deputies in the jail she is a teacher at Socrum Loop Elementary. She is listed as a 5th grade teacher on the Socrum website.
