Police Charge Two Brothers With First-Degree Murder In Lakeland
Police said officials found a hidden handgun and ammunition believed to have been used at a Lakeland murder scene.
LAKELAND, FL — Police arrested two brothers on Sunday, May 10, in a homicide that occurred in the 400 block of Cornelia Avenue on Friday, May 8, in Lakeland. Roberto Rodriguez, 31, and Reynaldo Rodriguez, 30, have been charged with first-degree murder.
The Rodriguez brothers were with the victim at a home on the night of the murder, according to a news release from the Lakeland Police Department. A fight ensued with the victim, and Roberto Rodriguez left the home. Moments later, police said Roberto Rodriguez returned, entering through the backyard, and then he shot the victim.
The brothers left the scene in a white Toyota Camry, according to police. Evidence and witness statements led investigators to the Rodriguez home located at 1105 Beech Avenue. Authorities saw the white Camry described by witnesses parked under an awning, and they said a search warrant of the property led investigators to a hidden handgun and ammunition they suspected were used in the shooting. Police arrested both brothers at their home, and they were taken to the Polk County Jail.
