POLK COUNTY, FL — An off-duty Polk County firefighter died early Saturday in a crash on Interstate 4 in Davenport, according to authorities and reports.
Polk County Fire Rescue confirmed Brian Herr, a 41-year-old firefighter and paramedic from Wesley Chapel, died in the crash.
"We are all grieving at the loss of Firefighter/Paramedic Heer who was just starting out on his career with Polk County Fire Rescue," Fire Chief Hezedean Smith said in a statement provided to WFLA. "His teamwork and positive attitude shined tremendously during his short time with Polk County Fire Rescue. He will be greatly missed. Please keep his family and friends in your prayers."

The single-car crash happened just before 6 a.m., the Polk County Sheriff's Office told Fox 13. Authorities said the car crashed near the County Road 557 exit in Polk City.
No other details about the crash were released.

The crash caused traffic delays in the westbound lanes of I-4, WFLA reported.
