Polk County To Offer Free Flu Shots Saturday

The Florida Department of Health in Polk County will offer free flu shots to the community this Saturday, Oct. 27 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

LAKELAND, FL -- Get a jump on this year's flu season. The Florida Department of Health in Polk County will offer free flu shots to the community this Saturday, Oct. 27 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Farmers Market in downtown Lakeland (Kentucky Avenue area).

"The flu shot is safe and effective and remains a person's best defense against getting the flu," said Dr. Joy Jackson, director of DOH-Polk. "I encourage all residents to take this simple step to help protect their health and the health of their friends and family."

The Centers for Disease Control and the Florida Department of Health recommends getting vaccinated against the flu by Oct. 31 as the best way to stay healthy during the flu season.

The flu shot is recommended for all Floridians 6 months of age and older on a yearly basis.
