Here are all the important dates families need to know about for the upcoming school year that kicks off in August.

LAKELAND, FL — While most kids might say it’s way too early to consider talking about next school year, parents know better. Those first bells will ring soon enough, and that means it’s time to start getting ready.

Parents who want to get a jump start on planning their schedules for the academic year ahead will find Patch has them covered. Here are the important dates for kids enrolled in Polk County Schools for the 2017-18 academic year:

  • Student orientation day – Aug. 8
  • First day of school – Aug. 10
  • Labor Day holiday – Sept. 4
  • Interim report – Distribution set for the week of Sept. 11-15
  • End of first grading period – Oct. 11
  • Teacher planning day – Oct. 16
  • Report cards – Oct. 24
  • Veterans Day holiday – Nov. 10
  • Interim report – Distribute week of Nov. 13-17
  • Thanksgiving holiday – Nov. 20-24
  • Storm Day makeups, if necessary – Nov. 20-21
  • End of second grading period – Dec. 21
  • Winter break – Dec. 22 through Jan. 4, 2018
  • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday – Jan. 15
  • Report cards – Jan. 17
  • Interim report – Distribute week Feb. 5-9
  • Presidents Day holiday – Feb. 19
  • Staff development day (storm makeup, if necessary) – Feb. 26
  • End of third grading period – March 14
  • Spring Break – March 26-30
  • Report cards – April 3
  • Interim report – Distribute week of April 23-27
  • Last day for students – May 24
