Polk Schools Plan To Reopen As Tropical Storm Laura Nears

The Polk County School District is monitoring the path of Tropical Storm Laura, and says it still plans to open school as planned.

WINTER HAVEN, FL —Polk County Public Schools said it is monitoring the path of Tropical Storm Laura. At this time, they say there are no changes to school operations.

The district still expects to reopen campuses on Monday, Aug. 24.

PCPS will continue to track the storm throughout the weekend and work with local emergency personnel as necessary, school officials said.

Any changes to school operations due to Tropical Storm Laura will be communicated through the district’s automated phone and email system, and the district's social media accounts.

Unless otherwise noted, PCPS said it will begin the new school year on Monday, Aug. 24.
