This exhibition showcases the work of Jason Myers, a prolific multi-disciplinary American artist based in Logansport, Indiana. His complex, layered work uses steel, resin and computer-generated prints.

Faces in the Crowd: Perspectives on American Figuration from the New Permanent Collection

Sept. 30-Dec. 17

This is the second in a series of exhibitions that showcase the museum’s latest acquisitions of American figurative art. Approaching the concept of the human figure and its representation in art broadly, this exhibition continues to highlight the new principal collecting focus of the Permanent Collection, one that addresses American figurative art as a subject unto its own in painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture.

Bound Ascension- The Sculpture of Gino Miles

Sept. 30-Jan. 14

Sculptor Gino Miles has worked in monumental and small dimensions since the 1970s. He works primarily in fabricated stainless steel and bronze, and the curvilinear, often weightless appearance of his pieces creates a visual contradiction with heavy metal materials, and challenges the fundamentally static nature of sculpture.

Rembrandt's Academy: Old Master Paintings from Private Dutch Collections

Through Sept. 24

Rembrandt van Rijn founded the most influential Academy to exist in the Dutch Republic (1581-1795), training dozens of painters to work in the “Rembrandtesque” manner. His characteristic style became famous throughout Europe. This exhibition features the artworks of some of Rembrandt's students.

The Figure in American Art: Florida Southern College's New Art Museum Collection

Through Sept. 24

This inaugural exhibition of the alliance between the Polk Museum and Florida Southern highlights one of the principal collecting initiatives fostered by the partnership: to develop a collecting focus that specifically addresses the “figure” as a subject unto its own in American painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture.

Embodied: Figurative Art from the Permanent Collection

Through Sept. 10

Throughout human history, the artist has portrayed the human figure more often than any other subject. In this collection, we witness the dignity and fragility of the human spirit. These works of art come together to touch the humanity in us all. This exhibition features selections by the Museum's docents of figurative artworks from the permanent collection.

Rosenquist

Through Sept. 30

James Rosenquist explored the imagery of popular culture and helped define Pop Art alongside artists such as Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol. Polk Museum of Art bestowed Rosenquist its Artist's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006 and is proud to count six works by Rosenquist among its collection.
