Suspicious Death Under Investigation in Lakeland

Police responded to an address where they received a call for a possible stabbing late Friday night.

LAKELAND, FL — The Polk County Sheriff's Office is conducting a suspicious death investigation in Lakeland at an address where they received a call reporting a possible stabbing.

According to the sheriff's office, a call was received around 10:53 p.m. Friday reporting a possible stabbing in the 12000 block of Country Place Road. When deputies arrived on scene, they found 32-year-old Gabriel Gamino with an "obvious" injury to his face.

He was taken to Lakeland Regional Health where he died shortly before midnight.

After investigating, detectives found that Gamino had been involved in an altercation with with an unknown male in Gamino's front yard, the sheriff's office said. The unknown male allegedly struck Gamino and fled the area.

Gamino went to a neighbor's house for assistance where he collapsed, the sheriff's office said.
