What's Open, What's Closed On Labor Day?

Here's a list of what will be open and what will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3.

POLK COUNTY, FL – While you enjoy a labor-free Labor Day – with the exception of maybe tossing a couple of steaks on the grill – here’s a list of what will be open and what will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3.

Retail Stores

Never fear. You’ll be able to run to Publix, Walmart, Target, Fresh Market or Sprouts for that forgotten bottle of mustard on Labor Day. Most national retail chains will be open on Labor Day although hours may vary.

Polk County Government

Polk County government services and offices, excluding public safety services, will be closed in observance of Labor Day.

Polk County Public Schools are also closed for students and staff.

Unless otherwise noted, trash pickup will be delayed one day.

City of Lakeland

City offices, libraries, recreation centers, Hollis Garden (closed all Mondays) and Lakeland Electric will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3 in observance of Labor Day.

There will be no trash/recycling pickup, either.

The following facilities will be open on Labor Day:

  • All parks
  • Gandy Pool: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Simpson Pool: noon to 5 p.m.
  • Cleveland Heights Golf Course: View Tee Times

City of Winter Haven

Customers with a Monday pickup day will be serviced Tuesday.

Tuesday customers will be serviced Wednesday.

There will be no lawn and leaf pickup.

Facilities that will be open include:

  • Rowdy Gaines Olympic Pool
  • Winter Haven Recreational and Cultural Center and Pool
  • Winter Haven Tennis Center
  • Willowbrook Golf Course
  • Trailhead Splash Pad

City of Auburndale

Government offices will be closed on Labor Day.

Monday trash collection will be on Tuesday.

Tuesday collection will be on Wednesday.

Thursday and Friday collection schedules will remain the same.
