Winter Haven Police Arrest 2 Men Found With $10,000 Of Meth

Two men are behind bars after they were found with more than 13 ounces of methamphetamine worth $10,000.

WINTER HAVEN, FL --Two men with extensive criminal histories are behind bars after they were found with more than 13 ounces of methamphetamine worth an estimated $10,000.

On Wednesday, March 28, Winter Haven detectives received information that 58 year-old Thomas Sane, 1145 Nekoma Ave. S, Lake Alfred, was in possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine.

Detectives also learned that Sane was traveling in a black BMW with 28 year-old Justin Lamar Powell, 2171 Castle Pointe Drive SW, Winter Haven.

The BMW, registered to Powell, was seen traveling east on Cypress Gardens Boulevard. Officers lawfully pulled over the car due to it having window tint that was darker than allowed under state statutes.

When officers approached the car, they were unable to see inside because of the tint and requested that the occupants step out.

Powell got out of the driver’s side and Sane the passenger side. When asked his name, Sane gave it and then added, “I have just a little dope in my pocket.”

That statement gave police probable cause to him. They found one baggie containing one gram of methamphetamine and a larger back with 38.9 grams.

A police drug K9 was summoned to see if any other drugs could be detected. The dog alerted police to a black lunch bag on the rear passenger floorboard containing 319.6 grams of methamphetamine

Also located inside the driver's side door pocket

was a glass pipe and two baggies containing .4 grams and .6 grams of methamphetamine.

Additionally, a case for sunglasses on the passenger floorboard contained two more baggies with 6.2 grams of meth.

Sane and Powell were arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail.

Sane is charged with trafficking methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

Powell’s been charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and keeping a vehicle for drugs.

Sane has been arrested for possession of meth six times in the past. He’s also been arrested for possession of cannabis, drug paraphernalia, chemicals to manufacture methamphetamine, grand theft, stealing in stolen property, forgery, fraud, burglary, possession of forged and counterfeit documents, retail theft, possession of burglary tools, and aggravated battery.

Powell has an equally long history of previous arrests including possession of cannabis,, meth, drug paraphernalia, grand theft firearm, grand theft, battery and burglary.
