24-Hour Abortion Waiting Period Starts July 1
Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed the bill into law Wednesday.

A controversial new law that puts a waiting period on abortions within the Sunshine State was signed into law by Gov. Rick Scott Wednesday, along with 54 other new laws.
The abortion waiting period goes into effect July 1. The law is hoped to give women a chance to reflect before terminating their pregnancies.
The legislation received support from Republicans, who saw it as a way to give women an opportunity to change their minds before going through with the procedures. Democrats, however, opposed the measure, saying it stood between women and their rights to have abortions.
