App Helps Parents Keep Tabs on School Lunches
The tool pulls up lunch menus from around the state.

Parents eager to keep up with what’s on the menu at their local schools as kids head back to class will find there’s an app to help them out.
Nutrislice, downloadable through iTunes and Google Play, provides parents with a fast way to find out what’s on the menu at their child’s specific school.
With those first bells set to ring at school districts across Tampa Bay the week of Aug. 24, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam is trying to raise awareness about the app’s potential usefulness for parents and students. Nutrislice was first introduced in Florida schools in 2013, providing a way for parents to better plan student meals and to “protect them from any food allergies they may have by helping guide their decisions in the cafeteria.”

“Back-to-school preparation is more than just getting school supplies, it also means planning for nutritious meals, which help children perform well in the classroom,” Putnam said. “As families are getting ready for the school year, I encourage them to download the Nutrislice app.”
