Blue Bell Ice Cream Back In Florida

The company made its return to the Sunshine State on Monday.

BRENHAM, TX — Tampa Bay area Blue Bell Ice Cream fans don’t have to wait any longer to sink their spoons into giant tubs of the frozen treat.

The Texas-based company announced Monday that its products are once again available in all major cities and their surrounding areas in Florida. Blue Bell products that are back on the Florida market include butter crunch, homemade vanilla, natural vanilla bean, Dutch chocolate, cookies ‘n cream and pistachio almond ice cream flavors, among others.

Blue Bell was pulled from store shelves across the country last year following a Listeria-prompted recall that led to a complete shutdown of production. The company began noting problems with Listeria contamination in March and announced a recall of all of its products in April. Listeria is a potentially fatal organism that causes fever, headaches, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Following a retooling of all its production plants, Blue Bell began returning to grocery store shelves in some markets late last year. The return to the Florida market was the final phase in the company’s re-entry plan. The company’s ice cream is now available again in 16 states.
